Daniel Vávra, the creative force behind the acclaimed historical RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is stepping back from active game development. The director, writer, and designer confirmed he will be moving away from the day-to-day creation of video games to instead lead the charge in bringing the world of Kingdom Come to the silver screen.
Vávra will serve as the director for a planned film adaptation, dedicating his efforts to translating the gritty, realistic world of 15th-century Bohemia into a cinematic experience. This shift marks a significant change for the figurehead of Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the 2018 hit. The game was celebrated for its deep historical authenticity, challenging combat, and narrative-driven open world, all elements Vávra will now seek to reinterpret for a new medium.
While this move suggests his primary focus is now on film, it does not necessarily signal a complete departure from the gaming industry he helped impact. The announcement clarifies that the existing team at Warhorse Studios will continue its work, ensuring the franchise's future in gaming remains in capable hands. For now, fans of the medieval epic can anticipate a new chapter for the property, as Vávra trades code for a camera to realize his vision in a different format.
