Star Wars: Galactic Racer From Ex-Burnout Devs Comes Out October 6

A new Star Wars racing game from former Criterion Games developers is set to launch on October 6. The game, simply titled "Star Wars: Galactic Racer," aims to bring high-speed podracing and starship combat to a new generation of players. The team behind it includes veterans who worked on the beloved "Burnout" series, known for its intense sense of speed and spectacular crashes.

Early footage shows a mix of classic podracing on Tatooine and more varied tracks through asteroid fields, canyons, and even the surface of a Star Destroyer. The developers are promising a physics-driven experience where boosting into walls or opponents has real consequences, not just cosmetic damage. Players will be able to customize their pods and ships with parts that affect handling, acceleration, and durability.

What makes this project stand out is its focus on pure arcade racing rather than simulation. The team has said they want to capture the chaotic, visceral energy of the podracing scene from "The Phantom Menace" while adding modern gameplay mechanics. Even for people who are not huge Star Wars fans, the promise of a fast, aggressive racer from the minds behind "Burnout" is hard to ignore. The game is scheduled for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version has not been announced yet.
